FDA acts to block washed-ashore fish from entering the market

According to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), it has dispatched a team to fish markets in Osu including the OSU Mandela market in the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and other coastal areas to prevent wash-ashore fishes from entering into the food chain.
Tons of dead fishes were found along the Osu Castle Beach last Friday. Close to 100 mammals believed to be Melon-headed whales were also washed to the shores of Beach Axim-Bewire in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region of Ghana.
According to the Acting Western Regional Director of the Fisheries Commission, Alhassan Arafat Salifu, the melon-headed whales are being counted to ascertain the actual numbers washed ashore. Some of the mammals are, however, still struggling to breath while some are dead.
